As part of its America 250 Celebration this year, the city of Bedford will hold an entire day of baseball-themed events on Sunday, July 12, as part of the Elmer Flick Baseball Classic at Ellenwood Center, 124 Ellenwood Ave., Bedford, from 12 to 9 p.m.

The Burning River Boys Barbershop Quartet will kick off the festivities at noon with the singing of the National Anthem. At 12:05 p.m., the opening pitch will take place for an Old Time Baseball game featuring the Whiskey Island Shamrocks vs. the Fulton Mules, with free popcorn during the game and a food cart from 12 to 6 p.m.

Youth baseball games will be held from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., with free snow cones from 4 to 6 p.m. The day concludes with the 7 p.m. City of Bedford Employee Charity Softball Game to benefit Meals on Wheels.

Elmer Flick was a professional baseball outfielder who played in Major League Baseball from 1898 to 1910 with the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics, and the Cleveland Bronchos/Naps. A native of Bedford, Ohio, Flick was one of the top hitters of the Dead Ball Era and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1963.
