Theft. On June 18, about 3:19 p.m., police were dispatched to a pawn shop on Rockside Rd. for a reported theft involving the sale of fraudulent gold jewelry. A customer sold two gold-colored necklaces to the business on May 15 for $1,650; standard magnet and acid testing did not indicate the items were fake, but the necklaces were later determined to be gold-plated rather than solid gold. An internal investigation linked the incident to a pattern of similar deception-based thefts across Ohio and other states. Surveillance footage showed two suspects leaving in a silver VW SUV with temporary plates; a written report and photographs were forwarded to the Detective Bureau.
Theft of motor vehicle. On June 17, at 9:27 a.m., a resident reported that his blue 2001 Jaguar XJ8L four-door sedan had been stolen from the garage of his apartment building on Marguerite Ave. sometime between the evening of June 14 and the morning of June 17. The car was taken without the keys. The owner was given a report number and advised to contact his insurance company.
Criminal damage. On June 16, at 7:36 a.m., police responded to a home in the 8400 block of Grand Division Ave. after a resident heard a loud noise around 1:30 a.m. and later discovered a bullet hole in the lower portion of his front door and shattered storm-door glass. The resident said his family has no ongoing issues with anyone and believes the house may have been struck by a stray bullet. The information was forwarded to the Detective Bureau.
Recovered stolen property. On June 16, at about 2 a.m., officers responding to a disturbance on Greenview Ave. recovered a 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen out of South Euclid from a detained woman who had concealed it in her pant leg. She told officers she found the gun in the trunk of an SUV, hid it when police arrived because she was scared, and was transported to the city jail and booked without incident.
