In her mayor's report to council at its meeting last Wednesday, July 1, Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell reported on a series of recent grants awarded the city by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District totaling over $1.6 million.
Included in the NEORSD grants are $1,144,500 for the Tokay-Tabor-Brunswick Sewer Repair & Rehabilitation Project; $301,200 for the Broadway Central Area Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project; and $232,500 for the Lee-Raymond-Ringhurst Area Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project.
Mayor Blackwell also noted a $200,000 grant awarded to Maple Heights from the State of Ohio to update the city's playgrounds, and a 50/50 matching funds grant from Cuyahoga County worth $230,000 for the resurfacing of Schreiber Rd., from the west corporation line to Dunham Rd.
Council also passed legislation to extend the moratorium on new tobacco and vape establishments for an additional 180 days; to authorize the sale of five vacant lots on Fairway and Longview avenues to ZT Development LLC at $2,000 each for new single-family homes; and to apply for the county's 2027 Community Development Block Grant, which could bring up to $150,000 toward resurfacing Maple Heights Boulevard.
In addition, council accepted quotes for a new 2027 Freightliner 108SD cab and chassis at $114,718 through the state cooperative purchasing program, plus $137,081.94 from Henderson Products to upfit the truck with a plow, dump body and salt spreader. A resolution recognizing June 2027 as LGBTQ Pride Month in the city was moved for a third reading.
